General information

  • Pika Wiya was incorporated under the SA Health Commission Act of 1975 and the constitution was signed on 12th November 1986, however in 2008 the Minister of Health announced an intention to introduce legislation to change the governance arrangements for country hospitals and health centres.
  • This meant that under the new legislation Pika Wiya Health Service (PWHS) would operate under Country Health South Australia (CHSA) with a local health advisory council (HAC) being elected from members of the community that replaces the previous Board of Management.
  • It is planned that from 1st July 2011 the Pika Wiya Health Service would operate independently as a Non Government Organisation (NGO) that is Community Controlled and that governance would come via a new constitution with a newly elected Board of Management in control of the organisation.
  • A video produced in the 1990's called "Everybody's Kids" depicts 3 stories about Child Protection and runs for a duration of 24 minutes.  This video can be purchased from Pika Wiya for $35.00 (includes postage anywhere in Australia).
  • Our conference room can be hired for a small fee, and you are able to book this room by contacting Pika Wiya Administration.
  • If you would like a copy of the Aboriginal Health Worker Medicines / Pharmacy Lectures CD-Rom produced in conjunction with the Port Augusta Hospital, just contact the Pika Wiya Health Service Administration Section.  The CD-Rom is a facilitators edition and is for use by pharmacists, doctors and nurses.
